Short Bio:

Patrick Hester is an author, blogger, 2013 & 2014 Hugo Award Winner, and an all around Functional Nerd. He writes fiction of all shapes and sizes, but his heart belongs to Science Fiction and Fantasy. He was the Producer/Host for the Hugo Award winning SF Signal Podcast, and for a few years the Producer for I Should Be Writing, the podcast for wannabe fiction writers created/hosted by 2013 Astounding Award for Best New Writer (formerly the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer) Winner Mur Lafferty. He is the Producer and co-host for The Functional Nerds Podcast. His debut novel, INTO THE FIRE, and his other fiction are all available online. He can usually be found on social media under ATFMB. He lives in Colorado with a puppy named Ronan who makes him laugh each and every day.

I Should Be Writing, the podcast for wannabe fiction writers created/hosted by 2013 Astounding Award for Best New Writer (formerly the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer) Winner Mur Lafferty. He has taught the basics of podcasting at conventions around the United States.

As a writer/editor, he has written for Kirkus Reviews, SF Signal and more and won a Hugo Award as a contributing editor to SF Signal. His fiction appears in anthologies, eBooks and his debut Novel, INTO THE FIRE, all of which are available online. By day he has been called a Digital Marketer. He enjoys cooking, playing tabletop and video games and listening to audibooks.

As an instructor/speaker, he has appeared at fan and writing conventions including Pikes Peak Writers Conference, Romance Writers of America, Capricon, WorldCon, WorldFantasy and MileHiCon to teach Podcasting, Scrivener, Marketing for Authors and more.

By day he has been called an Advertising Director, a Marketing Manager, a Digital Marketer and more. He enjoys cooking – especially Mexican dishes, Southern Dishes and pizza, playing tabletop and video games and listening to audibooks. He also loves what he calls ‘Wild Colorado’ and encourages you to seek out any National Parks nearby and take lots and lots of pictures.

Born in Chicago, he grew up in California but traveled a lot across America for work before settling in Colorado. He was the primary care giver for his mother who passed from complications associated with Alzheimer’s in 2021.
