Unofficial Description: Oh boy. Independence Day: Resurgence had so many people saying bad things about it that I decided to wait a very long time to see it. Then, one weekend, I had a little time to kill and decided to rent it and give it a shot. Learn from my mistake and don’t do that. If you pay for any premium cable channels or for Prime, just wait for it to show up there…
This movie is really bad. I think the only reason it got made was to try and ride the nostalgia wave Hollywood has been on recently. While it was good to see Brent Weeks working again, I winced throughout this movie’s bad dialogue, random screaming (a lot of people sort of roaring…), and terribly plot. It was just a mess. Some of it felt like, “Well, we have to get this character in here somewhere (Insert Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, etc) so people remember this is a sequel…” Mostly it felt like an attempt to setup a ‘tentpole franchise’, which seems to be the thing anymore (thanks to Marvel).
Official Description: Twenty years after mysterious aliens nearly wiped out humankind, they’re back with a vengeance in this explosive sequel to the original blockbuster hit, Independence Day!
Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth developed a vast defense program to protect the planet, led by Jeff Goldblum, returning as brilliant scientist David Levinson. But nothing could prepare us for a new invasion of unprecedented scale—and only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can save our world from extinction.
