Staring at a sunbeam makes you realize – there’s a lot of crap floating around in the air…

The oil change light in your car is just a recommendation sort of thing, right? I mean, if you track it by mileage, you can totally ignore that light…?

Being a tall, big guy was an advantage freshman year in high school – nobody messed with me.

Being a tall, big guy and traveling on airplanes is a distinct disadvantage.

I need to take more time for myself.

Vacations are hard for me because there is no one to pick up the slack for me when I’m gone – there’s just me.

Feeling unappreciated for what you do and contribute is not a good thing.

Being embarrassed when praise is given is not a good thing either.

I never want to be limited by genre as an author; why do authors have to write under pen names in order to publish their books across genres? Is being an author the ultimate form of typecasting? I mean – Robert Jordan (a pen name) wrote the Wheel of Time books under a pen name and used the same pen name for his books in the Conan universe, but used a different name (Reagan O’Neal) for his westerns.
Mike Resnick once told me that for him to write outside of Science Fiction would be like ‘starting over’. Why?
I don’t understand this at all. Why couldn’t you simply write what you want to write and be known as writer rather than a cross genre anomaly?
Has anyone successfully written books in multiple genres without having to use pen names?

As technology grows, as social networks grow, it becomes easier to reach out and make friends across the globe – people that you talk with every day, get to know, to love and feel close to.
Makes weekend bbq’s and get togethers difficult though…

I find it odd that people ask me for advice about publishing given that I have not yet been published. And yet, the emails and DM’s come in…

I can sell in any number of fields. I’ve sold a mystery novel, and
had offers for a Western. I’ve sold non-fiction books,. But while I can sell in those fields, I would be selling at beginner’s wages, and I’d rather make
the considerably more money I get for my science fiction.
Simple as that.

I guess what confuses me is – I work as a marketing director for a mortgage company. If I went to work for a grocery store as their marketing director, I wouldn’t start over on pay – I’d be able to get the same pay give or take that I make at the mortgage company.
You’re a great writer – why wouldn’t you be paid accordingly?
