It’s not that difficult really. You goto lunch, you order some food, someone makes that food for you and hands it over.
It never ceases to amaze me how little people pay attention anymore. I went to Arby’s today – they have a killer Reuben that I like and you can get it with turkey instead of corned beef, which I also like. The place isn’t busy – there’s nobody in line in front of me, no one coming in behind me. A few folks are sitting at tables enjoying their food.
The kid working the register asks me what I want. "Turkey Reuben – I’ll take the meal with a large drink and curly fries."
"Great," he says. "For here or to go?"
"To go," I reply. I pay, he hands me my cup and I’m off to the pop machine for some much needed caffeine (long morning – long story for another time).Â
A few minutes later, a gal calls my number and I walk up. "Beef reuben and curly fries," she says and hands me a tray with food on it.
"Um, I ordered turkey and it’s ‘to go’."
She stares at me with a blank look on her face, utterly confused. I say again, "I ordered turkey, not corned beef. And it was ‘to go’ not for here." She turns and looks at a screen.Â
"It says ‘corned beef’," she tells me. The kid working the register, turns and says, "I screwed up – it’s supposed to be turkey."
"Oh," she says and takes the tray away from me. She immediately starts speaking in Spanish to the girls in the kitchen. The conversation is quite heated, and so is the face of the kid at the register. I got the distinct feeling that they were saying unkind things about him when he spun around, face flushed and yelled, "I SCREWED UP – OK?!"
All conversations ended and I got my food. O.o
