Official Description: The origin story of the man who became the enduring legend of Dracula is told in Dracula Untold, an epic action-adventure starring Luke Evans (Fast & Furious 6, The Hobbit series) in the title role. Gary Shore directs, and Michael De Luca produces.
Unofficial Description: The Hollywood obsession with the origin story is an odd thing. From Peter Pan’s pre-Peter Pan story, to retelling Superman and Batman’s origins over and over, or Frankenstein’s, and Western icons like Billy the Kid in Young Guns, and yes, even Dracula. Occasionally, it’s good. I look at something like Batman Begins as a positive step forward and a great movie and story. But this Dracula movie, not so much.
I’m not sure what, exactly, they were going for with this one. Dracula is about horror, and the horror in this movie barely registered. I think they wanted to convey horror, but ultimately failed. Miserably.
It was sad.
I’m glad I caught it on cable rather than having bought a movie ticket or a DVD or something.
Not worth your time.

Sorry to hear that, because it looked so promising. But I think I look at origin stories in a different manner than you do.
