Friday Flick: Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
Share

Official Description: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter explores the secret life of our greatest president, and the untold story that shaped our nation. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (Director of Wanted) bring a fresh and visceral voice to the bloodthirsty lore of the vampire, imagining Lincoln as history’s greatest hunter of the undead.

Unofficial Description: I didn’t hate this movie, but the first part was so much better than the last.  I would’ve raved about it had they kept it the story of a young Abe seeking vengeance for the death of his mother.  Instead, they switched gears and jumped ahead into the civil war and that felt like a jarring leap out of the story for me.  I watched this On Demand for free – I’d recommend you do the same (don’t buy/rent).

My #1 beef with this flick was the fact that there was direct vampire-on-vampire violence, but there was a VERY pivotal scene where the rule of “a vampire can’t attack another vampire directly” was driven home. Maybe the rule was “a vampire can’t attack his master vampire directly.” It’s been a while since I’ve seen the flick. Either way, the movie went to great lengths to establish this fact and then blatantly broke the rule. That got under my skin.

I guess if I’m harping on a single item of dislike the movie was pretty good.

I gotta say that when the vampires “vamped out” the special effects were REALLY good.

Haven’t seen the movie. Tried to read the book. My word, it just never, never, never, never got in gear. Gave up trying to read it.

But if you ever run out of Sominex….
