Official Description: In an isolated, slowly dying mining town, children are vanishing without a trace – abducted, the townsfolk whisper, by a mysterious entity known locally as “The Tall Man.” Town nurse Julia Denning (Jessica Biel, Total Recall, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) seems skeptical…until her young David disappears in the middle of night. Frantic to rescue the boy, Julia lives every parent’s darkest nightmare in this twisting, shock-around-each-corner thriller from acclaimed director Pascal Laugier (Martyrs).
Unofficial Description: A movie starts out well and then takes a left turn into what the freak is this shit and leaves me wanting the last hour and 45 minutes of my life back.
I had no idea what this was going in except I thought it was a thriller/horror movie. It started as such. Woman living in a small town that is dying due to economic issues. She’s a nurse, her husband was a doctor and everyone loved the doc, but not really her. Not sure what happened to the husband but I got the sense he died, leaving the widow to deal with a town that, as I said, doesn’t care much for her. The other story is how the kids of the town are disappearing, have been disappearing, for quite some time. The townsfolk claim a mysterious ‘tall man’ is taking them. Sounds good so far, right?
That’s about the first 20 minutes of the movie. After that, things get weird. Seriously weird. The next hour and change make absolutely no sense whatsoever. None. It’s stupid. I think it’s stupid trying to be high conception, and it fails miserably. Biel delivers a monotone, emotionless performance that doesn’t help one bit.
Pass if faced with the option.
