Photo Friday: Burning Skies

Share

On the way back from a Pikes Peak trip, the sunset was mind blowing.  You had dark storm clouds overhead but the sun heading behind the mountains, creating this vision of a sky burning brightly as if on fire.

This photo was taken with my point and click camera.  I pulled off of I-25 into a little rest stop and just had to try and capture what I was seeing:

As always, click for a larger image

Times like these, I just don’t feel that the camera truly captured how spectacular a site this was.

    Hi Patrick.

Yeah, this is a photo that spans a lot of zones, to use the Ansel Adams system. Trying to meter this and get a photo that captures the entire scene is extremely difficult in one shot, if not outright impossible.

This is a situation where a photographer better than I would resort to taking a number of pictures and combine them into a HDR photo. Not my style, or skill set, but that’s how it would be done. Just about impossible with a point and shoot anyway, although you can hack a few to get them to output RAW files instead of .jpgs

So, rely on the memory from your Mark I eyeball 🙂
